The Final Countdown!

23/07/2018

It's been a busy 5 weeks since I finished work.

I've moved interstate to my parents house, unpacked, repacked, sorted, got new technological devices, changed banks, started investments, purchased new work clothes, cleaned and sorted the garage, filled out a stack of paperwork and put the finishing touches on this website, amongst other things.

I had an incredible albeit whirlwind visit back to Melbourne in mid-July to see the doctor. I managed to squeeze in a couple of rendezvous with mates whilst I was there, each their own special little thing. Speaking, though, of the final countdown, a big shout out to the Hot Dub Time Machine Bingo Chinese Edition crew, as I now know how to write DJ Lisa McTune in pinyin!

I've spent quality time up here in Port Macquarie with my parentals before I go, which has been tremendously important and valuable. We've even booked a week-long holiday together in Hong Kong in October.

Those of you that know me well will know that I love all things weather and it has been absolutely delightful up here. You'll all be please to know that i have really got back on top of my infamous sock tan. It is one of the things I'm best known for after all. It's been pretty easy to achieve given I'm a creature of habit. Up here my habit every morning is to sit at the beach with my skinny latte and watch the waves roll in, the dolphins frolic in the ocean and the whales breath a little further afield. It's a hard life but someone's got to do it!

Speaking of weather, in case anyone is at all interested, HERE is a link to the AccuWeather site for the location i am going to in China. One look at that bad boy and a little more research will show you why I have had trouble figuring out what to pack! It is hot and humid and wet. Not what Melbourne is like, but it does get colder over winter, which is the opposite time of year in the southern hemisphere. The weather, combined with not really knowing anything about shops over there and my schedule for my first few weeks, along with the potential issues of clothing size which I have been warned about, mean that I am using up both my 2x23kg included baggage allowance, plus another 2x23kg excess baggage 'shipping allowance' given to me by my employer. I guess that's what it's there to be used so why not?

Ohhhh, speaking of dolphins, no word of a lie, they've just popped up about 30 metres from the beach. Their timing was impeccable!

There's definitely a great deal of uncertainty ahead of me over the next month or so, but that's the beauty of life. Without uncertainty there would be boredom. I'm up for the challenges that are ahead of me as i start this new adventure.

For now though, I'm just trying to be here in the moment and embrace the things that i have here whilst I'm here. Driving a car around, drinking water from the tap and not eating noodles or rice. But more importantly the beach, the sun, the clear blue sky and the crisp, fresh air.
